Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

This is fascinating, or maybe scary is a better definition.

Dan Thies in his blog published how he managed to remove competitors from Google SERPs

He also explained in details how to avoid such cases and how to fight back. Amazing stuff.

Don’t try this at home…

Searching for passwords?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Google is an amazing search engine, we all know that, right?

So how about searching for passwords of people that left their passwords exposed on the internet, just for the sake of I don’t know what.

some of the nicest examples that I tried:(click on the links)

It is very important to keep your web server secured. There are ways to do things right, so that you won’t appear on those funny lists…

update:

I wrote this post few months ago and checked again to see whats happening here. I looked again for passwords and for classified documents and found lots of them . It seems to me that this is only a matter of security awareness and security education. If your emplyees will be aware of their document classification , this is a huge step to make them keep the company’s information safer. There are excellent ways to prevent this kind of information leak, and the biggest challenge for an CSO is making his employees think about security. Once they do that, there is a much higher chance that their documents won’t appear in Google.

Wichita State University Software Usability Research Lab published an excellent article about the Top Ten Mistakes of Shopping Cart Design

The article is based on a survey of 500 top E-Commerce website.

Here are the top mistakes that we chose:

1. Calling a Shopping Cart anything but a Shopping Cart.
2. Requiring a user to REGISTER before adding an item to the cart.
3. Requiring a user to enter shipping, billing, and all personal information before knowing the final costs including shipping and tax.

This article is pure gold.

Firefox - Where is everybody?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Say, what browser are you using? You’re still with Internet Explorer? It’s time to move on. Go ahead and download Firefox and enjoy a safer, faster and a better browser.I can’t understand why people still use IE as their main browser, and especially why web developers develop applications designed only for IE. It seems so stupid to do it.The main reason I like (I think it’s love…) firefox is the huge amount of add-ons available to download, all open source, all free. The following add-ons are a must for every Firefox user:

Firefox is heaven to Web Developers. I can’t imagine myself developing web applications with IE. (Actually I can, I had to do it few months ago for a customer and that was a night mare…)The following add-ons are for developers. They will just make your life easier.

And for those of you who read Hebrew, this section is for you:
