How to build a website

This guide is for people that have no technical knowledge and want to build a simple website for personal usage.
This guide is not for commercial puposes, and shows the way to build a website on a tight budget. If you can afford spending some money, there are much better ways to do it then using this guide...

The first thing you need to get is hosting.
There are a few options for hosting:
GooglePages allows you to build your own website for free, so that your own site at http://yoursitename.googlepages.com .
Google Page Creator is a free online tool that makes it easy for anyone to create and publish web pages in minutes. There is no need to learn HTML or use any software. You can edit your pages right in your browser, which allows you to build basic pages only. If you need a professional look, this option is not for you.
If you want real webspace, but still have no special requirements, 100webspace allows you to build your own website, absolutely free on their servers. You get 100M diskspace and a subdomain on their domain name, as well as PHP, MySQL, FTP, POP3 and more.

As you noticed, the free options are quite limited. If you want a real website, you will have to pay for hosting. Hosting Plans Comaprison is a good place to find web hosting plans according to your needs. With today's market, they all offer huge diskspace and bandwith, Make sure that you choose a US based company with 24/7 phone support.

Now that you got yourself some webspace, look for good layout. Open Source Web Design offers free proffesional web design templates, some are in very high quality. Look for the best tempplate you can find and move on.
If you are willing to spend $59.95, signup to DreamTemplate and get unlimited access to their premium quality website templates. They have Over 2,000 templates to choose from.

Now you need an HTML Editor. CoffeeCup has a great HTML Editor that costs $49. In case you are looking for free options, nvu is a good option, and so does PageBreeze.

You may also need an FTP Client to upload your files, CoffeeCup has a very easy to use software for that, and in case you want to use an open source software, FileZilla is your answer.
Text editors can be quite helpfull if you are going to write more than plain HTML files, so in case you are looking for one, notepad++ is an excellent free open source text editor that can do everything text editors do these days.

Blogs are getting more and more popular these days, and running a blog is one of the easiest things to do, in case you are a beginner. Blogger is the best option, you can get an excellent blog, run by Google, for free.
If you would like to have your blog run on your own domain, you can easily install WordPress on your server like we did on our site.
